Victorian Mansion Flat Interior Painting

The Challenge

The flat had not been redecorated in over twenty years, and extensive cracking had developed across several ceilings due to settlement in the Victorian structure. The original plaster cornicing was clogged with layers of old paint that obscured the delicate dentil and egg-and-dart detailing.

Our Approach

We began by carefully scraping and steaming the cornicing to reveal the original profiles, then filled and sanded all ceiling cracks using flexible filler to accommodate future movement. Every surface was given a full mist coat before receiving two coats of premium emulsion. All woodwork was rubbed down to a smooth key and finished in three coats of eggshell for a durable, wipeable surface.

The Result

The completed flat feels remarkably brighter and more spacious, with the restored cornicing now a genuine feature of every room. The owners were particularly pleased with the seamless transition between the neutral palette in the living areas and the deeper tones chosen for the bedrooms.
