Case Study
Mansion Block Communal Areas Decorating
The communal areas of a prestigious Edwardian mansion block in Earls Court required a full redecoration, encompassing the entrance lobby, five floors of staircases and corridors, and the rear service areas. The residents' association sought a scheme that would honour the building's Edwardian character while feeling fresh and contemporary.
The Challenge
The work needed to be carried out with minimal disruption to the forty-eight flats in the building, many occupied by elderly residents. Access to the stairwell was complicated by an ornate wrought-iron balustrade and a skylight four storeys above the main staircase that required scaffolding to reach safely.
Our Approach
We scheduled work floor by floor, starting from the top and working down, so that dust and debris never affected freshly painted areas below. A bespoke scaffold tower was erected in the stairwell to allow safe access to the upper walls and skylight surround. All original Edwardian timber handrails were sanded and refinished in a rich satin, while the plasterwork was finished in a warm off-white that complemented the building's original tiled entrance floor.
Before & After

Entrance lobby restored to Edwardian elegance
The Result
The communal areas now feel welcoming and well-maintained, with the Edwardian character of the building fully respected. The residents' association reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from occupants, and the managing agent noted an uplift in property valuations across the block.
Products Used
“The entire building feels renewed. The team worked around our residents with great sensitivity, and the finished result is elegant and fitting for a building of this stature. We have already recommended them to neighbouring blocks.”
